Aesthetic Symbols

These are not single characters. Each tile is a short sequence assembled from several code points, often borrowed from scripts that have nothing to do with decoration — Oriya digits, Egyptian hieroglyphs, Lisu letters. That is what makes them look unusual, and also what makes them fragile. This collection holds 7 aesthetic symbols drawn from 10 Unicode blocks — mainly Other Unicode range, Oriya and Egyptian Hieroglyphs. Code points run from U+00B0 to U+131AA. 2 of them sit above U+FFFF, in the supplementary planes, so they are more likely to render as colour emoji on phones and may be rejected by older software that assumes every character fits in two bytes.

Borrowed from real scripts

୨୧ is a pair of Oriya digits. 𓆩 and 𓆪 are Egyptian hieroglyphs. ꒰ and ꒱ are Lisu punctuation. Every one of them is a functioning character in a living or historical writing system, used here purely for its shape.

Multi-character sequences break differently

Because a tile can be four or five code points, a field with a character limit will count all of them, and a field that trims or normalises input may keep some parts and drop others, leaving a fragment rather than failing cleanly.

Accessibility cost is high

A screen reader encountering ꒰ა ໒꒱ will attempt to announce each character by its Unicode name. This is the decorative style most likely to make a profile unusable for someone relying on assistive technology, so keep the meaningful text plain.
